Searching for Sugar Man
Rodriguez produced his first album "Cold Fact" in 1970 - its brilliant. For some reason he was never successful in America, but he got huge following in South Africa. Searching for Sugar Man is a documentary by South Africans, who wanted to find out what happened to their idol. You HAVE to watch this documentaty!

If ever the music industry made a colossal mistake, if ever the human race was not able to recognise musical genius when handed to them on a plate then the story of Jesus Rodriguez is at the peak of that list. As Rebekka has pointed out the true die hard fans and cult following in South Africa has inspired Director Malik Bendjelloul to make this fantastic documentary taking you on a journey of laughter and tears as we the audience discover (and for many South Africans rediscover) one of the world most talented song writers of modern music. His lyrics pierce with truth and testament, and resonate as any grand poem would. He is in my and many other's book up there if not above Jimmy, Janis, Waits, Lennon, and Cale. Rodriguez is timeless and I urge you to listen to his albums and go and see this documentary.
